Meet Precious: I Didn’t Feel Like a Number
Precious joined the journey at Mile High Workshop in 2025, where she graduated our 8-week stability program and advanced to our 12-week work experience program in 2026. She is part of our alumni network and is taking active steps toward being a business owner.
This month, we’re introducing you to Precious, who recently graduated from the WorkShop. She came to us looking for a place to heal and build new skills, and we’re grateful to share her story with you.
Q: When you first came to Mile High WorkShop, what was going on in your life, and what were you hoping for? When I first came to the WorkShop, I was coming from a domestic violence marriage and I also had an open criminal case. And I was hoping to get the opportunity to learn how to work with industrial sewing machines.
Q: What’s something you learned at the Shop, about work or about yourself, that you’re proud of? I’m proud that I could just be myself at the WorkShop. I like the fact that I didn’t feel like a number. I’m proud of my sobriety which the WorkShop helped me with with programs and classes like Advocates for Recovery.
Q: What was your favorite part of learning and working at the WorkShop? My favorite part of learning would be that there are several projects to do and learn, so you can be doing something different everyday.
Q: What milestones are you celebrating right now? I am celebrating my sobriety and just where I’m at in my life. I have a dream again. I’m seeing things more clearly. I’m celebrating clarity, my hard work and balancing my life.
Q: What has it meant to have people here know you and celebrate those milestones with you? It feels good to have people around me that have been through the same things that or are going through the same things as me, it really makes me feel like I’m not alone.
Q: What are you hopeful about right now? What’s next for you? I have hope that things will work in my favor because I’m keeping myself aligned to my vision and my goals. What’s next for me is I’m hoping to open my own business. I did complete and passed my administrative test for the home care so I’m one step closer to getting the license.
Q: If someone new was walking through our doors tomorrow to start program, what would you want them to know? I would want them to know to take the time they have at the WorkShop seriously. Use the resources that they have, and know that all people are welcome!
Q: What is one word to describe your future? Harmony.
