TITLE: Operations Director

Employment Status: Regular / Full Time

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

About Mile High WorkShop

The Mile High WorkShop, in Aurora, CO, is a social enterprise offering contract light manufacturing, production and fulfillment services. The WorkShop’s unique employment model trains employees with various barriers to mainstream employment in a variety of production services and offers a suite of supportive services for program participants.

In it’s 5 years of operations, the WorkShop has employed over 100 participants and earned over $1 million in earned income. The organization is growing every year and on an exciting trajectory to continue expanding it’s impact in the community. A committed and passionate leadership team is already in place and seeking a new member to help create change in our community.

Position Overview

The Operations Director will provide the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the company has the proper operational controls, training processes, and strategic direction in place to effectively scale and achieve operational efficiency. Reporting to the Executive Director and overseeing the production department, the Operations Director will provide the structure and processes necessary to manage the organization's current operational activities and projected growth, while also being a crucial partner in structuring and implementing the organization's forward-looking strategic plan. As a subject matter

expert on fulfillment and manufacturing best practices, the Operations Director will be accountable for managing all fulfillment and manufacturing operations, identifying and implementing process improvements to improve efficiency, and meeting and exceeding goals for operations, capacity forecasting, and customer satisfaction. Most importantly, as a mission- oriented team member, the Operations Director will play a key role in training and creating employment opportunities for at-risk and marginalized populations. Professional skill, flexibility, initiative and empathy are all highly valued and utilized in this position.

Primary Responsibilities

Shared Collective Responsibilities

    they arise, and identify opportunities to improve existing processes

    Operational Oversight

  • Lead the development and standardization of day-to-day operating processes, and

    ensure production department achieves established targets

  • Monitor daily activities of the production team to ensure that all work is completed

    according to scheduled deadlines with attention to quality standards, priorities and

    overall goals

  • Design, implement, and constantly improve material handling, inventory control,

    shipping and manufacturing processes to optimize efficiency, minimize cost, and satisfy

    customer demand

  • Build and nurture critical relationships with key stakeholders that support capacity

    building, site growth, and operational efficiency

  • Establish performance goals for inventory management, warehouse management,

    order processing, and other related operations and train employees on best practices

  • Develop, track, report, and analyze performance goals and results of operations on a regular periodic basis to senior leadership team and recommend corrective action to

    improve future results

  • Identify and implement systems that can streamline operations and improve team

    performance

  • Support ongoing safety improvements and ensure fulfillment of regulatory obligations

  • Actively communicate and coordinate with other departments to optimize customer

    satisfaction, throughput, and efficiency

Financial Management

  • Own and manage the annual budget development process for department and

    implement budget tracking systems that balance organizational priorities and

    objectives, constantly looking for opportunities to deliver cost savings

  • Generate monthly and annual department budget reports

  • Prepare department financial reports for Board meetings

    Leadership and Strategy

  • Identify opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency of operations, with a

    vision for expansion

  • Collaborate with senior leadership team to develop and implement plans to improve

    the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel to achieve growth

    objectives

  • Ensure strategic priorities are aligned with budget priorities and translated into

    executable long-term and short-term functional operating plans (goals, objectives, action plans, and budgets)

    Employee Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop department staff members and support the creation of

    opportunities for professional development and maintaining staff morale

  • Train and mentor employees and identify development needs across the team, and

    coordinate additional training as needed

  • Establish employee performance goals and foster accountability by evaluating progress

    and providing tangible suggestions for improvement

  • Embody and foster a trauma-informed approach of supporting employees in the

    workplace, and coordinate with Programs team to remedy employee concerns

    Essential Qualifications

  • 7+ years of supervisory experience in fulfillment or manufacturing operations

  • Demonstrated success in creating and managing budgets in a resource-constrained

    environment

  • Excellent flexibility and adaptability with a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit

    to work effectively within an ambiguous, fast-paced environment

  • Operational excellence mindset with the ability to simplify complex challenges and

    drive continuous process improvement initiatives

  • Ability to make firm executive-level decisions in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

  • Strong project management skills with outstanding communication and follow-up

    abilities

  • Ability to communicate and express ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and

    oral formats

  • Working knowledge of personal computers and common business applications,

    including both spreadsheet and word processing software. (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.)

  • Strong interpersonal skills, exercising tact, patience, and diplomacy

  • Commitment to working with and supporting individuals with barriers to employment

    Desired Qualifications

  • Experience leading and maintaining social enterprise operations

  • Experience with job training and job creation programs employing disadvantaged

    people
